This is a great dollar store favorite and a cute craft to start off the fall season. While browsing through my local Dollar Tree, I stumbled upon a pack of votive candles and some gold thumbtacks. At the time I had no idea I was going to pair the two, but today it hit me: why not just stick the thumbtacks in the candle? Well, not just "stick" them in there, but cover the candle with the thumbtacks to create a scalloped pattern. It's that simple! Starting at the bottom, I began covering the candle with tacks. The key to this project is remembering that you're working with "wax" not "cork." The wax on the candle is a bit fragile; so try to insert the thumbtacks not so close to the bottom or top of the candle, because the wax may begin to break. Another tip is to make sure you do not pull the tack out multiple times trying to reposition it. It may take some practice, but you'll want to get to the point where you can push it in once (don't worry, it took me a while to get the hang of it). Pushing it in and pulling it out a few times may also cause the wax to crack. This project is great because you can just border the bottom if you'd like or pin all the way up to the top! It really is that simple, and not to mention, it only cost me $2.00! Let me know your thoughts and happy DIY!
